Fifth Grade

5th graders have a busy month.  Many end-of-the year tests will be taking place in the beginning weeks of May (Interim, DRA2 and STAR).  We will also be looking forward to Science Family Night (5/9), Field Day (5/14),  Summer Jam (5/16), Ameritowne (5/28), and a class bowling trip and continuation (6/4).

5th graders are now completing their exploration of Aesop’s Fables.  Students have written modern-day fables and have created books on their iPads using Book Creator.  Stories are now being compiled to publish to the iBookshelf.  If you are interesting in reading our classroom anthology, ask a 5th grader, or look to the Gust website for a link to be posted shortly.

Next up is our end-of-the-year multi-genre writing project.  Students will be completing a writing projects which will highlight their ability to write in a variety of genres.  Students will submit digital as well as traditional writing projects.  Many of these projects will be featured at our end-of-the-year continuation celebration.

Mr. Albert

In room 105 5th graders will spend the majority of May preparing for the Science Fair on Friday May 24. Students also have our field trip to Ameritowne to look forward to. For this field trip students will interview for their potential jobs on Monday May 6.

In literacy class students will begin an end-of-year writing project in which they will complete projects in different genres of writing. This will show their abilities to write in different genres and display their learning from the year. Some students will have an opportunity to create digital projects as an extension.

Finally, we will celebrate the end of the year Tuesday June 4th by taking 5th graders bowling followed by our continuation celebration.

En el salón de clases 105 los alumnos van a hacer mucho trabajo en ciencias preparándose para la feria de ciencias que se ocurre el viernes 24 de mayo. Además tenemos nuestro paseo a Young Ameritowne.

Gracias,

Mr. Rocco

Along with the many exciting events listed above, I would like to add that fifth grade will be studying Adolescent Biology May 13th and 14th.  On the 13th, students will learn about some general physical and emotional changes that occur during puberty.  On the 14th, there will be separate sessions for girls and boys in which we will go into greater detail about the changes that happen during puberty.  Permission slips will be sent home for parent permission for the second session on the 14th.
