Gust has a full roster for Girls on the Run. For parents of Girls on the Run participants, please have your daughter pack running clothes, a water bottle and a healthy snack. Girls on the Run will meet after school from 3:30-4:45 on Mondays and Wednesdays. The program will run the week of March 4-May 13. Although all of the spots that were paid for by our grant have been filled, we still have spots available at a cost of $145/per participant. Please see Nurse Megan for more details.
A note from the Principal
Greetings Gust Community!
Here we are in March at Gust. This month will begin with Report Cards being sent home on Friday, March 8. Please look for this report in your child’s backpack.
March is also the month of the Colorado State Assessment, TCAP. The TCAP will be administered to 3rd, 4th, 5th grade on March 12th, 13th & 14th and March 19th, 20th & 21st. Like every school night, it is critical that students get a good night sleep! It is equally important that students attend school each day (not just on these testing days). In order for students to master the required skills they must be present to receive the instruction, guidance, and educational opportunities to apply the skills.
On March 14, 2013 we will have our monthly GFTA (Gust Family Teacher Association) meeting at 3:30 p.m. in the library. Child care will be provided, so please plan on joining our active parent group and learn more about Gust.
March 14, 2013 is the day of our next evening event, beginning with a 3rd Grade Music Program at 5:00 p.m. The 3rd grade choir performance will be followed by one of our Family Nights (5:30 – 7:00). A percussion group will be performing at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium after families share in a pizza dinner in the cafeteria. More details on the event and a registration form will be sent home with your child.
The month of March concludes with Spring Break. There will be no school the week of March 25th through March 29th. Staff and students will return to school on Monday, April 1, 2013.
Best wishes,
Jamie Roybal, Principal

A Note from the Principal
Greetings Gust Community,
Happy New Year! We hope that you all had a wonderful break and enjoyed the company of loved ones. We are excited to welcome everyone back to school.
The students have arrived in their classrooms well rested and ready to learn. In December, the students completed mid-year assessments in reading, writing and math. The teachers are using the data gathered from these assessments to plan lessons to best meet the needs of each student.
As a reminder for ECE Parents, Friday, January 18, 2013 is an early release day for ECE students only. ECE students will be released to parents at 11:30 a.m.
Monday, January 21st is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. There will be no school in observance of the holiday. There will also be no school on Tuesday, January 22nd. This day has been set aside by the district for teacher professional development.
Gust has been selected to take part in the NAEP test. The purpose of this test is to provide representative data from each state to inform the nation’s education report card. This test will only involve our 4th graders. Information will be sent home to parents prior to the test.
February is the month that the 5th grade has been looking forward to because they’re going to Balarat! On February 6, 2013, the Gust 5th graders will leave for their overnight experience returning on Friday, February 8th.
Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled for February 12th and 13th from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. As in the past, the primary grades (ECE – 2nd Grade) will have scheduled conferences in the classrooms. Intermediate grades (3rd – 5th Grade), Specials, and Support staff will be in the cafeteria conducting conferences as parents arrive. We look forward to seeing all of you at conferences.
There will be no school on Monday, February 18th, in recognition of President’s Day and no school for students on February 19th.
February concludes with the administration of the 3rd grade TCAP Reading assessments on February 26th and 27th. Please be sure your child is well rested and in attendance each day of testing. We are confident that our students are prepared to meet or exceed the reading standards.
Additional important dates include:
- February 12 and 13: Parent Teacher Conferences from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.
- February 14: GFTA Meeting at 3:30 p.m. in the Library
We are off to a great start in 2013 and look forward to working together to ensure success for all of our students.
Jamie Roybal, Principal
