5th grade – Mr. Albert Room -116 (Resident Teacher Mr. Lee)
Students are completing examples of descriptive writing. Many fine examples of imaginative, factual, narrative, and realistic descriptive writing will be on display throughout room 116. Students next will begin working on reading and writing current event articles.
Students soon will begin adding Read Naturally to our literacy rotations. Read Naturally is a program designed to increase reading fluency. Students are also continuing with the Accelerated Reading program. Thanks to Carmel Hill for our classroom computers! Students certainly enjoy taking their quizzes on these brand new machines.
Finally, students were introduced to our new "Activexpressions" for use with our Promethean interactive whiteboard. These tech devices allow students an opportunity to vote and take assessments in a variety of formats (multiple choice, likert scale, true/false, and even short answer by texting responses).
5th Grade – Mr. Kolsky – Room 117 (intern Andrew Durham) Most of our 5th graders have mastered their multiplication tables! This has given them a HUGE advantage in our study of division. Please make sure your student has learned his or her multiplication tables. If not, they need to PRACTICE, PRACTICE, and PRACTICE! All students must reach proficiency in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to move on to 6th grade. Our next math unit deals with fractions, decimals, and percents and how to convert between them. An example is 1/4=.25=25%. Please review your child's homework weekly. In social studies, we will be studying the colonization of America. We'll specifically study the Spanish settlement of the Southwest and the English settlement of the East Coast. Those participating in Science Fair, "Get 'er done!" The fair is at Gust on December 1st.
