Greetings Gust Community! I want to begin by congratulating the 2018 Mile High Scholars:
Justyce Gonzales, 5th Grade
Steven Martinez, 5th Grade
The award is given to students who exemplify leadership, respect and peer support. “This program instills a sense of pride in the students’ achievements and their contributions to their school community,” Mayor Hancock said. “The students who are recognized as Mile High Scholars demonstrate the leadership skills and compassion required to compete and succeed. This generation will ensure the long-term vitality of our great city. We are honored to recognize them for their accomplishments.” These students have received certificate packages that include a congratulatory letter from the Mayor, a Mile High Scholar Certificate, and more!
Additionally, I want to thank our parents and students for their incredible work to be in attendance for our end of year testing. These tests are critical to helping teachers know what gaps exist and how to build off of existing knowledge.
Our Gust Community Partnership group held their second annual Father-Daughter Dance last month which was a great success! The event was open to all students and caregivers. 200 attendees enjoyed a DJ, dancing, photo booth, sweet treat buffet, games, contests and more.
The week of May 7 -11 is Teacher Appreciation Week. The Gust Community Partnership will be providing a catered lunch for our fabulous staff on Wednesday, May 9. If you would like to bring in items to add to the parent sponsored lunch or help serve, please contact Maria Aragon at email@example.com. Our next parent sponsored event is Mother-Son Bowling on Friday, May 11. Please watch for the notices sent home regarding the upcoming event details. Details may also be found on our Gust website or Facebook page.
May 24 will bring the annual Gust Field Day. Grades 3, 4 and 5 will participate from 9:00-11:30. Grades Kindergarten, 1, and 2 will participate in field day events from 1:00-3:15 with their peers, staff, and parents cheering them on! Join us to cheer on each of our themed classroom teams!
On May 25 from 9:15-11:00, students will present their inquiry-based projects to peers, staff, and community at the Gust Science Fair. Come see what our Gust scientists have been working on!
On May 31 our Kindergarten students will have their continuation ceremony. Ms. Dock’s and Ms. Belknap’s classes will start at 9:30 a.m. Ms. Cano’s and Rana’s classes will begin at 1:00 P.M.
On May 30, we will celebrate our departing 5th Grade. The 5th Grade Ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m. for Ms. Mobarez, Mr. Kolsky, Mr. Rocco, and Mr. Roman’s classes. The ceremony for Ms. Reznik and Ms. Norberg’s classes will begin at 1:00 p.m.
The last day for students is Thursday, May 31, 2018. The last day is a full day. For continuing families, the Gust Registration will be held as an Open House on August 1 and August 2. On August 1 from 8:00 – 3:00 p.m. and August 2 from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. Please plan on attending one of the registration sessions in order to receive important information and to secure your student’s assignment at Gust. The first day for students will be on August 20, 2018. All students previously registered will be assigned a homeroom and have a teacher looking for their smiling face on the first day, so make sure to come in and get all of the paperwork completed prior to the official first day of school! With that, I leave you all with best wishes for a safe and fun-filled summer, and look forward to greeting all of you again in August!
